The film *THE BEST IS YET TO COME* by Nanni Moretti

Nanni plays Giovanni, a well-known Italian director who is currently planning his magnum opus. But not only does he have to convince his leading lady that the film—about the founding of the Italian Communist Party—will by no means be a romance, but his wife also wants to leave him after many years, his daughter is in a relationship with a man much older than she is, and his bankrupt French producer hopes that a Netflix deal will save them all. But Giovanni wouldn’t be Nanni if he didn’t use his old-fashioned irony to tie everything together and lead them all toward a happy future.

Nanni Moretti, born in 1953, was born while his parents were on vacation in South Tyrol and grew up in Rome. As a member of a generation that became politically active at an early age, he has enjoyed international success since his 1976 debut film *IO SONO UN AUTARCHICO* (*I AM AN AUTARCHIST*)—not with political films, but with stubbornly personal ones characterized by everyday and situational comedy.
