CALLE MÁLAGA tells the story of 79-year-old Spanish woman María Ángeles, who is firmly rooted in Tangier (Morocco). Her small apartment, full of memories, is her home, a place she lovingly cares for and cherishes. When her daughter decides to sell the apartment, María is threatened not only with the loss of her home, but also with moving into a retirement home. But for María, resigning herself to this “fate” is out of the question
: With wit, charm and stubbornness, she fights for her independence and her home. The film is less a social drama than a cheerful, snotty homage to ageing. It is carried by Carmen Maura, who has been one of the great actresses of European cinema since her early appearances with Pedro Almodóvar.

Maryam Touzani, born in Tangier in 1980, studied journalism in London before returning to Morocco and specializing in writing about Maghreb cinema. She soon felt the urge to realize her own
fi lm vision. Her feature film debut ADAM screened at Cannes in 2019, THE BLUE CAFTAN was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize in 2022 and established her as a significant voice in Moroccan auteur cinema.
