Fouad, a Moroccan who has been living illegally in Italy for years, and Daniela, a former drug addict from Puglia’s upper middle class, meet by chance in Umbria. The encounter is the beginning of a love affair that helps them to find themselves. But Fouad’s feeling of not belonging and the endless wait for a visa push him to his limits: Will he stay in Umbria or return to Casablanca, even if it means never coming back?
Adriano Valerio (*1977) is an Italian director and screenwriter who has lived in Paris for over 20 years. He has made numerous short films, with which he has been invited to international festivals such as Venice, Cannes, Toronto and Rome and has won a David di Donatello, among others. CASABLANCA is his first feature-length documentary film. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival in the Giornate degli autori and was shown at the Critics’ Week in Berlin.
