A 15-year-old Yörük shepherd in North Macedonia, Ahmet, develops a passion for electronic music and wants to become a DJ. At the same time, he falls in love with a girl who is destined for an arranged marriage. Not an ideal starting point for realizing dreams. The film accompanies Ahmet through his everyday life, shows his family and the village and gives an insight into the traditions of the Yörük Turks. In an admirable way, director Unkovski manages to immerse himself in the world of the small Turkish minority of the Yörük Turks in North Macedonia and to find in it a longing for self-determination and rebellion. DJ AHMET was honored at Sundance 2025 with the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award and the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision.

Macedonian director Georgi M. Unkovski studied film and photography in Rochester, USA. His short film STICKER and his feature debut DJ AHMET celebrated their premieres at the Sundance Film Festival and combine the observation of social conditions with precise staging.
