LA MAL COIFFÉE: Occitan music quartet
End-of-Year Concert featuring Karine Berny, Myriam Boisserie, Laetitia Dutech, and Carla Gaudré.
“La Mal Coiffée” from Occitania: This group consists of four female musicians who use traditional instruments such as drums and the single-stringed zither to perform the repertoire of rural songs from the Languedoc, compose new melodies, and sing in Occitan with passion and conviction. The quartet has been around for 25 years and was recently joined by a young saxophonist. The poetic lyrics, written by Laurent Cavalié, tell of forgotten stories and contemporary issues, as well as initiatives to resist the fatal course of world events. With their powerful songs, the four women invite listeners to use fantasy and imagination to free themselves from oppression and alienation and to engage in joyful resistance. The concert also marks the conclusion of the anniversary year, during which the 65th anniversary of the Heidelberg-Montpellier city partnership and the 40th anniversary of the Montpellier House were celebrated.
The evening will conclude with drinks and a small buffet, to which everyone is warmly invited to contribute.
