POPULAR FESTIVAL FOR FRENCH NATIONAL DAY
A Bal Folk (“Balèti”) featuring the Occitan group Edra from Montpellier – live music
In the courtyard of the Montpellier House, Kettengasse 19, 69117 Heidelberg; free admission
The Montpellier House is turning 40 this year—we have to celebrate that in style! With a larger group, Edra, who will enchant us with Occitan songs. “Edra” means ivy in Occitan. Four letters for four intertwined personalities, connected to the world of yesterday and
tomorrow, full of strength and tenderness, like the ivy that takes deep root and turns its leaves toward the sky. Edra offers a “general” dance repertoire featuring traditional melodies and original compositions, combining couple and group dances from southern France.
Théophile Joubert: Vocals, banjo, cello / Aelis Loddo: Vocals, violin, viola / Cédric Piérini: Diatonic harmonica / Marou Thin: Flute, hurdy-gurdy.
We’ll also be serving our sunny wines from Montpellier again, as well as authentic French sausage and cheese platters. And the parents of students in the bilingual program at Bunsen High School are contributing lots of delicious quiches. There will also be a small (big) surprise that you won’t be able to miss! Come check it out! Starting at 6 p.m., the group Edra will introduce us to a few dances that will be performed during the concert… Starting at 7 p.m., Edra will delight us with their concert. Starting around 10 p.m.: As always at the Montpellier-Haus, everyone is welcome to sing along to French hits from the ’60s to today during karaoke.
