The 40th Mediterranean Film Festival will also be celebrated musically, this time with the trio “El Candil” from the south of France. This word is used in both Castilian and Arabic. Candil, the oil lamp, also means “light”. The meeting of the three musicians is characterized by the luminosity of Mediterranean music, from which they draw a repertoire that oscillates between the Middle East, the Maghreb and Andalusia: Flamenco music (Bulerias, Tanguillo, Martinete…), Arabic-Andalusian music (Touchia, Nouba, Moels…), traditional and popular music of the Maghreb (Algerian and Moroccan Chaabi), Jewish-Arabic music and also their own compositions.
A repertoire that builds a bridge between the shores of the Mediterranean and takes us on the trail of exile, its laments, travel, love and the exchange of music and cultures since the Middle Ages. Flamenco and oriental songs intermingle and tell us about the encounter and closeness of the cultures of the Sinti, Andalusians
and Maghrebians.
Abdel Bouzbiba: violin, Algerian mandola, lute, vocals, percussion. Cecilia Flamenca: flamenco guitar, vocals, percussion. Manuel Lolo: oud, flamenco guitar, vocals, percussion.
