It all began around 3,000 years ago in Greece. There, in Olympia, the athletes meet for their competitions. A crown of olive branches is to be won. The ceramists
of the time often depicted them on vessels. When an exhibition of these vessels was being prepared at the Musée du Louvre, one of these precious vases broke. The runners are in shambles. How can they be saved?
Through this accident, history connects the sporting world of yesterday with the Olympic Games of today. Antoine Guillopé has made a name for himself with his expressive
black illustrations with laser cuts both in France and in Germany. Today, in this children’s book, he guides us through time with clear modern images – as a tribute to the ancient world. Géraldine Elschner reads from her picture book. Afterwards, each artist will design his or her own image of an athlete on clay in the ancient Greek style.
