Touda dreams of only one thing: to be a sheikha, a traditional Moroccan artist empowered by the lyrics of the militant women poets who lived before her – with their songs about resistance, love and emancipation. Touda, who performs every night in provincial bars under the lustful gaze of men, plans to leave her small town and move to the bright lights of Casablanca, where she hopes to be recognized as a true artist and secure a better future for herself and her son.
