The preparation course for young wives unexpectedly becomes a meeting place for two people who are excluded from society. In the 1940s, 17-year-old Marta has to leave her lover Michele to go to war. When she gives birth to her son Michelangelo and Michele does not return, not only her family but also the Calabrian village is in turmoil. The widowed farmer Gino finally agrees to marry the now single mother. During the preparations for the wedding, the young woman meets the priest’s homosexual assistant Lorenzo, who opens up a whole new world for her. This drama takes a look at the history of emancipation and at women who make the difference.

The Italian film producer, director and screenwriter Cristiano Bortone (*1968) worked as a producer on the audience successes SAIMIRS ENTSCHEIDUNG (2004) and MARIA, IHM SCHMECKT’S NICHT! (2009) as a producer. As a director, he celebrated international success with the award-winning film ROT WIE DER HIMMEL (2006). Daniela Porto (*1979) is an Italian photographer, production manager and director. Together they made the film IL MIO POSTO È QUI, which was widely acclaimed and won several awards.
