In 11th century Andalusia, the philosopher Ibn Hazm wrote a guide to all matters of love. In it, he conjures up a mystical Andalusia, a utopia of creative coexistence between different people. The film reminds us of this by having a teenager search for the 100 names of love and rescue a page of Ibn Hazm’s book from a burning library. Shot in the impressive landscapes of Tunisia and Spain, the film shows how this myth has always been and still is threatened by fanaticism and violence. DAS VERLORENE HALSBAND DER TAUBE was awarded the Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival in 1991. The restoration of the film was carried out by trigon-fi lm in close collaboration with Nacer Khemir.
Nacer Khemir, born in Korba, Tunisia in 1948, is a true all-round talent: the director, who sees himself primarily as a storyteller, not only makes films, but also works as an author, painter and sculptor. His filmography includes documentaries and film essays as well as feature films such as THE WALKERS IN THE DESERT (1984) and BAB’AZIZ (2005). Nacer Khemir still travels the world as a storyteller in the traditional sense. He lives in Tunis and Paris.
