Italian actress Jasmine Trinca’s directorial debut, which premiered in Cannes in 2022, tells the story of a street performer’s difficult relationship with her daughter, who struggles to win her mother’s love with her dog Marcel (named after the legendary mime Marcel Marceau). Shot in a sun-drenched Rome in summer, MARCEL! pays homage to the tradition of street performers and circus films, neorealism, Fellini (LA STRADA sends its regards) and the Commedia dell’Arte.

The German subtitles were created by students as part of two combined seminars at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting at Heidelberg University.

Jasmine Trinca made her debut in 2001 in Nanni Moretti’s MY SON’S ROOM. She went on to impress as an actress without formal training in numerous films and received prestigious awards. She was a juror at festivals in Venice, Cannes and Berlin and became a member of the Oscar Academy in 2024. She was able to present her debut as a director in Cannes in 2022.
